Ohio Farm Available for $100 and Essay

If you are both a gambler and a decent writer, check out this fun contest to win a homestead of 45.5 acres in Colebrooke Township, Ohio. Your chances are 1 in 3000. Of course, you also have 1 in 3000 chance of being hit by lightning in your lifetime. However, you can increase your odds of winning if you manage to write a compelling reason why you in particular should win this farm. Somehow I suspect that people who write of their intention to resell the property on eBay are not going to win.

If I had several foster children, I'd do it. However, with a household of three and one son on his way to college, I don't think I stand enough of a chance. Unless, perhaps, I come up with a good business plan for an organic farm. Hmm. Let me think about that.

Here's the link to the story! To get the nitty gritty details about the contest, go to this site.

Thank you, Kathleen, for letting me know about the $100 farm!

Note: I do not see anyplace on the contest site that tells what will happen if the family does not receive the necessary 3000 submissions. The site does state that the fee is non-refundable. Due diligance!

Deming: Two Acres!

As a freelancer, I enjoy looking at housing possiblities all over the place, even worldwide! When I saw that this house located in Deming, New Mexico (mucho blue skies!) is available for only $45,000, I felt tempted. It's the two acre part of the deal that did it. The combination of expansive land and blue skies is just irresistible. Who needs neighbors ten feet away?
